1. Make sure your computer meets the minimum requirements for the game
You can find a list of minimum hardware requirements for each game on the game's webpage. Your computer must be at least as good as these for the software to run correctly!
2. Make sure you have the latest version of DirectX installed on your computer
DirectX is a set of libraries written by Microsoft. Basically they allow software like games to use the various bits of graphics and sound hardware that you have installed in your computer. Installing the latest version of DirectX on your PC will ensure that you also have the latest drivers for your computer's hardware.
